Product code: Alleyn’s School, newest Dulwich - Handcarved Lino Print

A special, limited edition, hand-carved, hand-printed linocut of Alleyn's School, Dulwich, to mark the 400th anniversary of Edward Alleyn's foundation of the "College of God's Gift". Edward Alleyn was an Elizabethan actor famously associated with William Shakespeare, and it is for this reason that Alleyn's has had such a rich theatrical heritage, nurturing a number of contemporary prominent actors and musicians over the years.

As an Alleyn's Old Girl (AOG) 1981-88, this subject holds particular resonance for me, not least because my father was school master at Alleyn's for 30 years, during which time he was head of CDT, Head of the CCF RAF section, and House Master of Spurgeons. As such, I don't view Alleyn's simply as my old school - I effectively grew up there. We lived in a teacher's flat until I was 6, and the grounds of Alleyn's were my back garden - playing on the Dragonfly Helicopter in the playing fields (because what school doesn't have an old aircraft in its grounds?!), or making wooden swords in his workshop.

I suspect my father would not approve of my technical drawing abilities newest with this print (as any alumni who remember his lesson on diminishing points brought to life by Fred the Helicoptic Cyclops will concur) but to be honest, all those windows and lines made me cross-eyed with this print, and it turned into a labour of love.
